After forsaking academia to become a political adviser in the City, Brian Landers has acquired a wealth of experience of business and public policy issues. Formerly a director of the publisher Penguin he previously held senior management positions with leading British retailers Sainsbury's, Habitat, W H Smith and Waterstone's.


His public appointments have included Finance Director of H M Prison Service, Trustee of the Royal Armouries, Deputy Chairman of the Financial Ombudsman Service and Audit Commissioner. In addition he spent two years with a family planning charity, worked for an insurance company in Buenos Aires and an American multinational in Amsterdam, was a management consultant with Price Waterhouse and for three years served as Treasurer of the UK Section of Amnesty International. He is currently Chair of Companies House and a member of the Competition Appeal Tribunal.


Brian has written on subjects as varied as quangos, European affairs and House of Commons committees and has contributed to opendemocracy.net.


He was educated in the UK and US and has an MBA from London Business School.
